Meet the Doctors

 
LAWRENCE HORN, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Horn was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He is a graduate of the Albany Medical College of Union University. He completed his internship and residency at The Long Island Jewish Hillside Medical Center where he was also appointed Chief Resident. He is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Dr. Horn has held many appointments and elected posts throughout his career. He is past Chief of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Huntington Hospital, and has served for many years on the medical board of Huntington Hospital, as well as on several other committees. Dr. Horn was also President of the Suffolk County Obstetrical and Gynecological Society and a member of their Executive Counsel. Dr. Horn was also influential in the establishment of the Obstetric and Gynecological Standards of Care for Suffolk County and served on the Advisory Counsel of The March of Dimes.

Dr. Horn has had special training in colposcopy and continues to have great interest in the treatment of cervical disorders, such as abnormal PAP smears, cervical dysplasia, pre- cancerous lesions and HPV infections. He has extensive knowledge in the causes, prevention and treatment of osteopenia and osteoporosis. Dr. Horn also has focused much of his attention on hormone replacement therapy, including bio-identical hormones, for the treatment of menopausal symptoms. He is well versed in pre-conception counseling and infertility. Dr. Horn feels nutrition is the key to good health and encourages his patients to follow good dietary habits including vitamin and mineral supplements.

Dr. Horn is married and has two grown sons. He enjoys music and tries to play the trumpet.

 
AMY HEARNE, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.

Dr. Amy Hearne is Board Certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is recognized as a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Hearne attended the Pennsylvania State University, where she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in pre-medicine. In 1999, she received her Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. She completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. While training at the major referral center for the entire state of Maryland, she was exposed to a wide range of obstetric and gynecologic conditions. Dr. Hearne also traveled to Thailand to work with a training program designed to improve cervical cancer screening and treatment in that country.

Dr. Hearne has lectured and published in many areas of both obstetrics and gynecology. She is the co-editor of The Johns Hopkins Manual of Obstetrics and Gynecology, which is a well-respected handbook for physicians in training nationwide. She has co-written chapters about Endometriosis and Labor and Delivery. She has lectured and published peer-reviewed articles on management of abnormal pap smears, cervical dysplasia and HPV. Dr. Hearne has given multiple lectures in the community, including at Farmingdale State College. Since 2007, Dr. Hearne has served as the OB/GYN consultant to the US Open Tennis Championships.

She is well versed in a variety of aspects of obstetrics and gynecology, with special interests in adolescent gynecology, contraception, abnormal Pap smear management, menopause, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. Dr. Hearne believes that maintaining a healthy lifestyle through exercise and nutrition are important aspects of health and preventative medicine.

She resides in Greenlawn with her husband, Mike, a Long Island native, and their two daughters. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, exercising, reading, outdoor activities and watching sports.

 
 
MARY E. WHITE – NP, MS, AHN-BC

Mary Beth, a Long Island native, is a seasoned nurse practitioner who has provided quality women’s healthcare to the community for over 25 years. A graduate of the School of Nursing at Adelphi University, she began her career as a Labor and Delivery nurse practicing in New Jersey and the Bronx. She received her certificate as a Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner from the Margaret Sanger Program affiliated with Planned Parenthood of New York City and Downstate Medical Center. Subsequently, she completed a Masters of Science as a Nurse Practitioner in the Primary Care of Women at SUNY Brooklyn. She is also an Adult Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Colposcopist, and is nationally certified in Women’s Health and as an Advanced Practice Holistic Nurse. Her professional affiliations include the American Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, the American Holistic Nurses Association, and Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health.

Mary Beth is proud to have been a member of the team that initiated the Dolan Family Health Center, Huntington Hospital’s ambulatory care center. For thirteen years, she developed and coordinated the Dolan Center’s gynecology service.

Throughout her professional and personal life, Mary Beth has sought to understand and acknowledge the mind-body-spirit connections which affect our illness and health. To this end, she has studied psychosynthesis, imagery and meditation, and, is a CranioSacral Therapist. She strives to help the women she treats achieve optimal wellness by being a guide to assist them in making well-informed choices.

Mary Beth lives in Huntington and has two grown daughters. When not working, she loves hiking, being by the sea, and Danskinetics.
